What if one of the most memorable computers of 1984 could return—not as a fragile collector’s item, but as something you could use every day? That question inspired the Kokogol Maclock, a 1:3-scale Macintosh 128K alarm clock created as a tribute to 50 years of Apple design history.
After 240 days of studying proportions, adjusting curves and refining tiny details, we transformed the spirit of the original Macintosh into a modern retro desk clock. From the warm “Retro White” finish to the ventilation details on the back, every element was designed to bring a small piece of computing history to today’s desk.
The Computer That Made Technology Feel Personal
In 1984, computers often felt cold, complicated and distant. Then came a compact beige machine with a small screen and a friendly smiling face. Its shape was simple, but its personality was impossible to ignore.
For many people, the Macintosh 128K represents more than an early personal computer. It captures a moment when technology began to feel creative, approachable and human. Decades later, that emotional connection remains—yet owning an original machine is increasingly unrealistic. Surviving examples can be rare, expensive and too delicate for everyday use.
We could not all collect the original, so we decided to recreate the feeling.
Why We Created the Kokogol Maclock
The Maclock did not begin as an attempt to make another retro-looking clock. It began with respect for a classic design and a desire to keep its memory visible in everyday life.
Our designer wanted to create an emotional alternative to the original machine: something small enough for a desk or bedside table, practical enough to use every day and detailed enough to feel instantly familiar.
“We couldn’t all own the original machine, but we could preserve the feeling it gave us.”
240 Days of Obsessing Over the Details
A generic beige shell would have been easy. Recreating the character of the Macintosh 128K was not.
For 240 days, we refined the scale, silhouette, surface texture and placement of every visible element. Even details that most people may never notice—such as the vents on the back—were treated as essential parts of the story.
- A faithful 1:3-scale form inspired by the Macintosh 128K
- Warm “Retro White” finish with a vintage-computer appearance
- Classic smiling startup screen
- Pixelated dot-matrix typography
- Rear ventilation details recreated for added authenticity
- DIY decals for personalizing the exterior
The result is not simply a miniature computer-shaped clock. It is a carefully considered vintage computer desk accessory designed to create an immediate connection with the era that inspired it.
The Floppy Disk Is More Than Decoration
On the original Macintosh, inserting a floppy disk was part of the ritual. It was physical, deliberate and memorable. We wanted the Maclock to preserve that interaction rather than use the floppy disk as a purely decorative prop.
That is why the Maclock features a functional floppy-disk power switch. Insert and press it to wake the clock, recreating a small piece of the original insert-and-boot experience.
To our knowledge, the Kokogol Maclock is the world’s only modern desk clock built around this functional floppy-disk interaction. It is a tiny detail, but it changes the product from something you simply look at into something you actively experience.
A Modern Clock Inside an Iconic Form
Although the exterior belongs to the spirit of 1984, the internal functions are designed for a modern desk. The Maclock presents useful everyday information without becoming another distracting smart screen.
- Time, date and weekday display
- Temperature display
- Alarm and sleep modes
- Cool 8000K backlight inspired by vintage CRT tones
- Physical knob for adjusting screen brightness
- Top lever with power and backlight control functions
- USB-C port for modern convenience
No endless notifications. No unnecessary apps. Just the information you need, displayed through a retro interface with genuine personality.
Why There Is No Kokogol Logo on the Front
One of the questions we receive most often is, “Where is the Kokogol logo?”
The answer is simple: we intentionally left it off. A prominent modern logo would interrupt the design and pull attention away from the era we wanted to honor. Keeping the face clean is our way of respecting the industrial design language that inspired the Maclock.
It also leaves room for your own style. Use the included DIY decals to create a personalized vintage look, or keep the exterior completely clean for a minimal desk setup. The Maclock is not about displaying our brand—it is about your connection to technology history.
Who Is the Maclock Made For?
The Kokogol Maclock is designed for people who see technology as more than a list of specifications. It is for collectors, designers, longtime computer enthusiasts and anyone building a thoughtful retro desk setup.
It also makes a distinctive gift for:
- Fans of classic Macintosh design
- Apple enthusiasts and technology-history collectors
- Designers and creative professionals
- People who enjoy retro desk accessories
- Anyone who remembers the personality of early personal computers
The Legend of 1984, Reimagined for Today
The Maclock was never intended to replace an original Macintosh 128K. Nothing could. Instead, it offers a practical and emotional way to keep the memory of that era close.
It is an alarm clock you can use, a miniature design object you can personalize and a conversation piece that quietly tells the story of personal computing. Every time the smiling computer appears on its screen, it creates a small connection between the desk you use today and the machine that helped define 1984.
